Hey there!
My name is Kirsten and I am one of the co-founders of The MORE Society.
All my life I’ve been an extroverted empath; someone who thrives off of community and wears my heart on my sleeve.
I’ve played sports since before I can remember, and being part of different teams has taught me some amazing life lessons and skills that I still use to this day.
There are four very impactful moments in my life that have forced me to face big changes.
I’m going to share them with you here so that you can get to know me a little better and see why The MORE Society means a lot to me.
The first very impactful moment was at the age of 14.
Something in my body didn’t feel right. That summer, heading into Grade 9, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (Crohn's/Colitis). My team of doctors was amazing and helped me get my symptoms under control for the most part.
Until I experienced a stress-induced flare-up in my second year of University.
The pressure of my school work mixed with being away from home and living with a group of girls who bullied me at every turn made my symptoms take a turn for the worse.
I felt so alone and did not have a team close by to rely on.
I didn’t know what to do, so I kept my head down, and with the support of my family, I was able to try more intense drugs for my ulcerative colitis. The drugs did relieve or reduce my symptoms, but they also came with a host of nasty side-effects.
The third very impactful moment in my life happened in 2018.
I was managing my ulcerative colitis and had built my support network back up with close family and friends. But one of my dearest family-friends lost her battle with cancer. She left behind her 3 little kids, one of whom is my goddaughter, and life hasn’t looked the same to me since.
I was reminded again of what is most important, and that is when I finally started putting myself first each day so that I can show up at my best for those around me.
I’ve been learning how to be less of a “people-pleaser” as that can be a drain on my energy, I created a morning routine that started at 5 minutes and has grown into a beautiful 20-30 minutes that I gift myself, and I’ve found MORE women who have become part of my supportive life team both inside and outside of The MORE Society.
The MORE Society is something that grew from the passing of my close family-friend in 2018.
It was a wake-up call and I knew that I had MORE to give, MORE to live for, MORE to experience in this life.
The MORE Society is a place where I feel welcome and accepted for who I am. It feels similar to that team atmosphere I grew up in playing sports where we cheer each other on!
And in October 2020, my whole life changed again. I’ve started answering to the name of “Mom.”
It’s an honour and a dream come true to welcome my first baby earth-side. While it’s been one heck of a transition into this new role, I’m beyond grateful to myself for the strong mental health and physical health foundations I’ve created inside The MORE Society.
And slowly but surely, I’m showing my baby girl the things I do for myself so that she grows up knowing that taking care of herself is normal and a must-do for creating her best life ever.
xo, Kirsten
